AddMonitor Error 5
Posted by admin admin on 22 November 2006 08:34 PM
Problem:
I'm receiving an "AddMonitor Error 5" dialog when installing Win2PDF.

Solution:

This can be caused by a local security policy configuration under "Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy".  Under "Local Policies -> Security Options", disable the "Devices: Prevent users from installing printer drivers" policy.  After this policy is disabled, the Win2PDF setup should run successfully.

On Windows 11, This can also be caused by "Windows protected print mode". To disable this feature, perform the following steps:
  1. Open Settings: Click the Start button and select the Settings icon (gear icon).

  2. Navigate to Printers & scanners: Go to "Bluetooth & devices" and then select "Printers & scanners".

  3. Locate Printer preferences: Scroll down to find the "Printer preferences" section.
  1. Turn off Windows Protected Print Mode: Under this section, you should see "Windows protected print mode". Select the "Turn Off" button.
  1. Confirm the action: A confirmation window will appear. Click "Yes" to disable the mode.
