Using SMS to manage licenses
Posted by admin admin on 22 November 2006 08:29 PM
Problem:
We use SMS to attempt to keep track of version and licensing company wide. What file should I set my query criteria to look for when varifying the existance of Win2PDF on workstations?

Solution:
The best file to check is WIN2PDF.DLL in the following location:
%systemroot%\\system32\\spool\\drivers\\W32X86\\3

For versions of Win2PDF previous to 2.50 or for current versions of Win2PDF on Windows NT 4.0, the WIN2PDF.DLL file is located in:
%systemroot%\\system32\\spool\\drivers\\W32X86\\2

The version information on the file is not accurate, but the current version of Win2PDF is stored in the registry at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Dane Prairie Systems\\Win2PDF

or

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Dane Prairie Systems\\Win2PDF Pro

depending on whether Win2PDF or Win2PDF Pro is installed.  The registry value is named "version", and is the version multiplied by 100.  For example, if Win2PDF 2.85 is installed the "version" value in the registry is "285".
