Email hyperlinks with '.' characters aren't detected correctly
Posted by Craig Lebakken on 29 November 2006 03:16 PM

Problem:

When I create a PDF with an email address that contains a '.' character, the part of the email to the left of the '.' character dissapears. For example the hyperlink of john.doe@domain.com becomes doe@domain.com. If the email address contains a "mailto:" prefix as in mailto:john.doe@domain.com, the hyperlink is converted correctly.

Solution:
This is actually a problem with Adobe Reader. Win2PDF only detects email addresses when the "mailto" prefix is added. In the other case, Adobe Reader automatically detects the hyperlink but it doesn't handle '.' characters in email addresses.  The only solution is to always use the "mailto:" prefix if the email address contains a '.' character.
