Problem:
When I go to send an email from Win2PDF on Windows 2003 R2 x64 server, the MS Outlook Express wizard shows up rather than MS Outlook 2003. I've checked the Windows defaults mapi client settings, and they're set to Outlook 2003.

Solution:
The problem is that Win2PDF is a 64 bit application on Windows x64, and Outlook is a 32 bit application. Windows x64 has separate default MAPI clients for 32 bit applications and 64 bit applications. Even though Outlook is set as the default MAPI client, it is only used as the default client if the calling application is also a 32 bit application. Outlook Express on Windows x64 is a 64 bit application, so the "Send PDF" option in Win2PDF chooses the default 64 bit MAPI client.

When Microsoft releases a 64 bit version of Microsoft Office and Outlook, it will work correctly with Win2PDF on Windows x64. Until then, you can configure Outlook Express to send email from other 64 bit processes. You can also install and configure the Win2PDF Font Helper application which works correctly on both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows. You can download the Win2PDF Mail Helper application from the following location:

http://helpdesk.win2pdf.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/189/15/win2pdf-mail-helper-download

Question:
Does Win2PDF include any metadata or revision history when a Word document is converted to PDF?

Answer:
Win2PDF is a printer driver, so only information that would show up on a printed page will be included in the PDF file. Any hidden text or revision information will not be included in the PDF file.

Win2PDF does save the author and document name in the "Document Properties" which can be viewed in Adobe Reader. You can edit these fields with Win2PDF Pro when you create the PDF file, and you can prevent Win2PDF from including these fields by using the "Win2PDF Admin Utility" available at:

Problem:
When sending email using Outlook and the Win2PDF "Send PDF" option, the signature configured in Microsoft Outlook is not added to the email.

Solution:
This appears to be a limitation of Outlook when applications interface with Outlook using the MAPI interface. If you right click on a PDF file in Windows Explorer and select "Send to -> Mail Recipient", Outlook will open with the PDF file as an attachment and the signature is missing. Since the same problem occurs when using Windows Explorer, I don't think there is anything we can do in Win2PDF to fix the problem.

There are a couple of work-arounds that may help. Using the Windows registry editor (regedit.exe), you can create a STRING registry setting named "PDFMailDefaultNote" in set the value date to the text of your template. The value should be created at the following location in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Dane Prairie Systems\Win2PDF

This will configure Win2PDF to automatically add the template text to the Outlook email when the "Send PDF" option is used.

A second option is to use the free "Win2PDF Mail Helper" add-on to send email instead of using Outlook. You can download and install the Win2PDF Mail Helper add-on from the following location:
http://www.win2pdf.com/helpdesk/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=view

You will have to configure the "Win2PDF Mail Helper" application to use your SMTP server to send email. After installing and configuring the Win2PDF Mail Helper, Win2PDF will use the Mail Helper to send email instead of Outlook. You can set your desired template in the "Signature" field of the Mail Helper, and it will automatically be saved and restored the next time that you send an email.

Problem:

Some Word 2007 documents that contain images produce very large PDF files with Win2PDF.

Solution:
Word 2007 has an option to reduce the resolution of images in the document which dramatically decreases the PDF file size. To reduce the file size, click on the "Format" ribbon and choose the "Compress Pictures" option at the upper left corner of the ribbon toolbar. Choose "All pictures in document", "Web/Screen", and enable the "Compress pictures" and "Delete cropped areas of pictures" options. After clicking OK and printing to the Win2PDF printer, the PDF file size will be dramatically smaller.

These options are described in more detail at:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2002066/loss-of-image-quality-after-you-save-in-word-excel-or-powerpoint-2007
